Espada Y Daga (Sword and Dagger)

Martial Artists/ Instructors of the Visayan Corto Kadena Eskrima, Guro Jay Jasper Pugao and Guro Greg Manalo are showcasing the Espada Y Daga (Sword and Dagger) flow before warming up for their performance on Friday. The late and great Master Sonny Umpad always said that you can tell who really are the advanced blade fighters because “they move their weapon, for example like a blade, like an actual blade and not like a stick”.

Our school, The Visayan Style Corto Kadena Eskrima Martial Arts School, are thankful and honored to be invited by Grand Master Robert Castro and Punong Guro Joseph Bautista of ESKABO DAAN Filipino Martial Arts School to do a demonstration with them representing Maestro Sonny Umpad’s Style at the San Francisco GIANTS Filipino Heritage NIght.

We are grateful to be invited by SF Giants, Filipino Heritage Night organizers with special thanks to Gavin Tolentino for the tickets and Eskabo Daan school for having us share.

BBQ’in with Sonny Umpad’s people. The VSCK practitioners / instructors hang out with Sonny’s kids.

On April 28, 2012 the Visayan Style Corto Kadena group got together to meet with the son and daughter of the late and great Maestro Sonny Umpad. We gathered at our big brother’s house, Guro Renato Alfonso, as he organized a needed get together for the brother/sisterhood to flow, eat, and meet the Umpad children.
